Support available to help Blue Monday brighter
These factors can have an impact on your mental health. It’s important that those who are struggling this Blue Monday seek the support they need to help brighten up their day as well as recognise the support that is available all year round for those who are experiencing difficulty with their mental health.
GPs across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin want to remind residents about the help and support that is available near you to help manage your mental health.
Clinical Lead for Mental Health in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, Dr Priya George said: “The past few years have been difficult for everyone, but for some, it’s been particularly hard. There are small steps we can all take to give our mental health and wellbeing a boost and connecting with your local community is one of them. It could be something as simple as having a chat and a cup of tea with a friend or family member, but it could make a world of difference. There is also plenty of national and local support available to those who are struggling with their mental health which can be found on the NHS website.”
There is plenty of evidence to suggest that there are five steps you can take to improve your mental health and wellbeing. These things combined could help an individual feel more positive and fulfilled in everyday life.
1. Connect with other people.
Good relationships are important for your mental wellbeing, they can help you build a sense of belonging, self-worth and provide emotional support.
2. Be physically active
Being active is not only great for your physical health and fitness but evidence shows it can improve your mental wellbeing.
3. Learn new skills
Research shows that learning new skills can also improve your mental wellbeing by boosting self-confidence, raising self-esteem, build a sense of purpose and help you to connect with others.
4. Give to others
Research suggests that acts of giving and kindness can help improve your mental wellbeing by creating positive feelings and a sense of reward.
5. Pay attention to the present moment (mindfulness)
Paying more attention to the present moment can improve your mental wellbeing. This includes your thoughts and feelings, your body and the world around you.
